Teaching Your Children to be Chore savvy

Teaching your children how to do chores is a brilliant idea. You’ll be able to delegate tasks while teaching your youngsters how to be responsible at the same time. Okay, maybe you’d be able to finish all of the necessary jobs quicker by yourself, but teaching them to clean up and take pride in their space will be far more rewarding. You shouldn’t see it as child labor, but as arming your children with positive life skills that will serve them well in the future. If you don’t teach your children how to pick up after themselves, you could end up crippling them for life. Allowing them to clean their room, as well as help with the dishes and the cooking, means that you can take comfort in knowing that you’re raising self-sufficient beings who can thrive in the world Perfume.

Start at an early age

The saying, ‘start early, finish strong’, rings true when it comes to moulding your little ones into responsible beings. Even before they learn to walk, they can learn about chores. When you’re cleaning the house, you can push your child around in their stroller or walker as you go along. They will get used to the routine and have an idea of what needs to be done when they get a little bit older. As they grow, they will want to be more hands-on, trying to help you as you go along. With children, the less able that they are to do a chore, the more eager they will be to do it. Remember not to expect perfection from your child’s attempt at cleaning. They’re still learning, and you should find joy in their progress and their willingness to do so. You will have to go and fine tune your child’s attempts, but don’t do this in their presence, as you may risk making them feel as though their work isn’t good enough. Allow them to revel in the joy of completing a task to the best of their ability, and at their own pace.

Keep it Fun

Be innovative and come up with ways in which to keep your child inspired to do chores. You know your babies best, so you can tailor the chores in a way that they’ll find them enjoyable. If your child enjoys superheroes, let him or her use their imagination and transform into their favourite superhero, completing a chore to save the day. You can add to this fantasy and let them wear a costume when cleaning. Doing the laundry could be a top secret mission, and adding liquid fabric softener could mean adding a special potion to save the clothes from the dreaded static monster. This will excite them, and keep them engaged throughout. Give them tasks that they’ll enjoy like sorting the laundry into piles according to colours. You could teach them fun tips, like how to make homemade fabric softener, or how to cook their favourite meals. Never forget to show your appreciation – a ‘thank you’ and a nod of approval from mom
